Safaa Dergham
Cal. State Univ. Long Beach Sally McGill, Cal State Univ. San Bernardino Paleoseismic studies of the San Andreas Fault in the San Bernardino area.
As of 7/15/99: I am currently working on my thesis with Sally McGill, Beth Ambos and Jim Sample. I am working on a trench out in San Bernardino where I am combining paleoseismology and geophysics. I will probably present what I am working on during the next SCEC meeting.

Leland Green
UC Santa Barbara Craig Nicholson,
UC Santa Barbara
Development of an Interface for 3-D Visualization of SCEC Earthquake Data on the World Wide Web

Lowell Kessel
UC Santa Barbara Arthur Sylvester,
UC Santa Barbara
Folding and faulting along the San Andreas fault, Palmdale, California; Implications for simple shear mechanics and education of the public
As of 7/15/99: I am working on a Masters degree in geology at UCSB. My thesis is on the textural characteristics of deep marine explosive volcanism. I am also pursuing funds for continued research on the San Andreas Fault within the Palmdale area. The focus will be on the small scale folds and fractures produced by the interpreted enechelon strike slip shear zone, proposed from the SCEC intern project.

USC Ann Blythe, USC Geomorphic mapping and 3-He Chronology of rock slide scarps along the Oak Ridge fault

Tracy Pattelena
Pasadena City College David Okaya and Nikki Godfrey, USC Velocity structure of the San Fernando Valley from tomographic inversion of active source data

Justin Rubinstein
UCLA Paul Davis, UCLA Analysis of Azimuthal Variation in Amplitude Factors in Sherman Oaks During the Northridge Earthquake Aftershock Sequence
As of 7/15/99: I am curently in Alaska working for the UAF Geophysical Institute (the GI) for a NSF REU Summer Internship program. I am involved in an effort, with Roger Hansen and Dan McNamara, to model the attenuation, find a Q value, for Lg and S waves from regional events in Alaska. Following this internship I will return to UCLA to finish my final year. I also plan to continue my research on Santa Monica, upon my return.

Javier Santillan
UC Santa Barbara Jaime Steidl Understanding Ground Motion Variations at the Van Norman Dam Complex Site
As of 7/15/99: I am in graduate school at UC Santa Cruz. I will be studying mineral physics.

Lisa Sarma
Columbia University Thomas Heaton, Caltech Investigation of the coupling between structures and ground vibrations and the implications on damping in buildings
As of 7/15/99: In May I graduated from Columbia Univ. School of Engineering & Applied Science, and majored in Civil Engineering and minored in Earth and Environmental Engineering. Currently I am a research assistant in the Geology Department at UC-Berkeley studying the mechanism and rates of erosion in rivers. In September I will be attending the UNESCO/International Hydrological Programme's "Advanced Course in Ecohydrology" which travels through Poland, Hungary, Austria, Croatia, and Italy. In the fall I am starting the PhD program at Stanford Univ., in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics & Hydrology program under the Department of Civil/Environmental Engineering.
