The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program supports opportunities for undergraduate students at SCEC institutions to work alongside SCEC scientists. For summer 2002, students at SCEC institutions are encourage to ask SCEC scientists about potential SCEC-related projects that could support the participation of the student as a summer research experience. If such a project is identified and the student spends the summer working with a SCEC scientist, then such a student would be eligible to participate in a special mid-summer student seminar and field trip to geologic points of interest in southern California, and to attend the SCEC Annual Meeting in Oxnard, CA, September 8-11, to present their research results. Students at SCEC institutions who are eager to work with a SCEC scientist for the summer should e-mail benthien@usc.edu to indicate your particular research interests.
