1994-1995: LA COUNTY MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY: The earthquake exhibit was upgraded with input from Charlie Sammis (USC) and Curt Abdouch (SCEC Education). Exhibit upgrades included: a paleoseismicity display; a computer display of world seismicity; a P-wave and S-wave display; a 3-D display of faults and seismicity in the LA Basin; The CUBE display. 1995-1999: CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER: We have helped improve exhibits and patron programs. SCEC influenced development of its earthquake. They requested our assistance with compiling earthquake data and graphics for a new Technopolis interactive exhibit, ""Track the Quake"". SCEC formed an advisory group to aid in display/exhibit/program development. A class based on the resulting product is now taught three times a week, to grades 9-12, at the California Science Center. 1999: SCEC furnished speakers and docent trainers for the California Science Center's children's programs, including the grand opening of the Powers of Nature exhibit that features earthquakes. 1999-Present (Ongoing): KIDZONE: Educational, family-oriented exhibit on earthquakes in so. Calif., emphasizing science, engineering, mitigation and safety. 1999: EXPLORATORIUM: In December 1999, Andrews, Marquis and Hafner led teachers' workshop, hosted by the Exploratorium as part of AGU's Fall Meeting education workshop series. 1998: SANTA BARBARA: Working with SCEC outreach and researcher at UCSB to create docent-led tour of local faults and upgrade current earhtquake exhibit. 2000: BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT (BLM), STATE OF CALIFORNIA: SCEC will build an interpretive trail along the San Andreas Fault at Wallace Creek in 2000, in cooperation w/ BLM and Caltech prof. Kerry Sieh. Objective is to provide a first-rate interpretive trail at a geologically significant site along the San Andreas Fault in California; to facilitate students, scientists and the general public with accurate and up-to-date information about the fault zone; to encourage investigation of this site by providing images, activities, a self-guided tour, and other information through an interactive Wallace Creek website. |
