Topics will be aligned with the California Science Content Standards for grade 6, however, all science educators from grades K – 12 are welcome to attend. A continental breakfast will be provided and every teacher participant will receive a set classroom materials valued at over $100.

The workshop will feature the earthquake education video Earthquake Country – Los Angeles. Each registered participant will receive a video kit containing an Earthquake Country Los Angeles DVD, maps provided by the Automobile Club of Southern California, a SCEC earthquake visualizations CD, and other resources. Each participant will receive a classroom set of the SCEC publication Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country. Posters and other materials from the United States Geological Survey and the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology will also be distributed at the workshop.

Workshop participants and discussion leaders will examine how the activities can be best implemented with K - 12 students. Collectively the group will consider content standards, what is known about learning, and the day-to-day challenges of teaching science. The group will share model practices and have ample opportunity to network. Registration Deadline is Thursday, May 1, 2008. Register early, attendance is limited to 25 spaces.
