SCEC 2001 Annual Meeting Awards

As SCEC is ending its term as an NSF Science and Technology Center, several people were recognized at an Awards Ceremony on the last night of the Annual Meeting.

 


Center Director Tom Henyey (right) presents the 2001 Outreach Award to Bernard Minster, who accepted the award on behalf of Jill Andrews, former Director of SCEC's Outreach Office. Ms. Andrews was attending another meeting and could not make the ceremony. The award was for "Exceptional Leadership in Developing the SCEC Education and Outreach Program 1995-2000."

 


Director Designate Tom Jordan (right) presents an award to Bernard Minster in recognition of his "Distinguished Service as SCEC Science Director 1999-2002."

 


Science Director Bernard Minster (right) presents a framed poster of the Phase III Amplification Map to Ned Field, who led the team that produced the report.

 


Past Science Director Dave Jackson (left) presents an award for "Distinguised Service as Chair of the SCEC Advisory Council" to Bob Smith (1997-2002).

 


Past Science Director Dave Jackson (left) presents an award for "Distinguised Service as Chair of the SCEC Advisory Council" to past Chair John Rundle (1994-1996). An award will also be sent to Barbara Romanowicz (1991-1993) who was not able to attend the SCEC Annual Meeting.

 


Jim Whitcomb (left) , NSF Deputy Division Director for Earth Science, presents John McRaney (SCEC Director of Administration) with a book of acknowledgements and anecdotal stories about John compiled by the SCEC Community to honor his years of service for SCEC.

 


SCEC Director Designate Tom Jordan (left) presents current SCEC Director Tom Henyey with a plaque recognizing Henyey "For His Distinguished and Sustained Leadership of the Southern California Earthquake Center 1991-2002." The plaque will be mounted on the wall of the new SCEC Boardroom.
