2011 Annual Meeting: Palm Springs, CA
September 11-14, 2011 The 2011 Annual Meeting of the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) is the final meeting of the collaboration under third phase of SCEC (SCEC3). During the meeting we will take the measure of SCEC3 accomplishments, but the primary focus of the meeting will be on long-range planning for SCEC4. SCEC4 officially starts February 1, 2012, and the SCEC4 proposal puts forward an ambitious plan for the next five years. The Planning Committee has organized a series of sessions consisting of talks coupled with discussions that emphasize new elements in the SCEC research program and are designed to encourage SCEC4 planning. The science of earthquakes is also driven by events, and the meeting program shows the influence of the 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake, its aftermath, and its implications for earthquake and tsunami hazards in California. As always, the SCEC Annual Meeting is an opportunity for the community to share and get updates on SCEC research projects and activities, as well as plan collaborations for the coming year.
The meeting agenda is available online. An abridged printed version (1.5 MB PDF) of the 2011 Annual Meeting Proceedings Volume will be handed out to all registrants at the meeting. The full volume (10.2 MB PDF) is available for download, as are the individual sections listed below:
Section 2: Report of the Advisory Council (496 KB PDF) Section 3: SCEC Communication, Education, and Outreach Report (881 KB PDF) Section 4: Research Accomplishments (6.8 MB PDF) Section 5: Draft 2012 Science Plan (343 KB PDF) Section 6: Poster Abstracts (1.3 MB PDF) The Annual Meeting will be preceded and followed by five workshops: Poster abstracts were due August 8, 2011. Because of space restrictions, posters will be divided into two groups: Group A (displayed September 11-12) and Group B (displayed September 12-13). Posters dimensions should not exceed 4 ft high x 6 ft wide. The SCEC Annual Meeting will be held at the Hilton Palm Springs Resort in Palm Springs, California. The negotiated group rate is $110 per night (not including tax and fees). Reservations at the Hilton can only be made through the SCEC Annual Meeting registration process. Registrants will be booked into the Hilton on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow rooms have been arranged at the Spa Hotel (across the street from the Hilton) for the same group rate. We will send a master rooming list to the hotels for room assignments. The registration and housing deadline was August 12, 2011. We recommend you fly directly into Palm Springs Airport (PSP), if at all possible, since the Hilton Palm Springs Resort offers a free shuttle service to/from the airport. Registration closed August 12th. See complete list of registrants. Search for abstracts submitted for this meeting |
