Turkey vs. California Earthquakes:
USGS / SCEC Researcher Ross Stein Featured on National Public Radio Interview

Similarities between the San Andreas fault and the North Anatolian fault in Turkey are discussed by Ross Stein during a Fall 1999 interview on National Public Radio (NPR):

NPR's Richard Harris reports on the scrutiny of the Turkey earthquake by seismologists in California attempting to better understand the San Andreas Fault that lies beneath the San Francisco Bay area. There are a lot of similarities between the two faults, and one big difference: the fault that produced the quake in Turkey has ruptured several times over the past century, the one in California only once. Scientists say a better understanding of the North Anatolian Fault could give them clues leading to better predictions of future quakes in California. (4:00) (Description from the NPR website)
