CUREE Announces Six New University Members

The Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering (CUREE) has announced that six new university members have been admitted into membership. The new University Members are:

University at Buffalo, State University of New York (representative to be named)
University of Colorado at Boulder (representative: Benson Shing)
Georgia Institute of Technology (representative: Roberto Leon)
Oregon State University (representative: Solomon Yim)
University of Texas at Austin (representative: Sharon Wood)
Washington State University (representative: Kenneth Fridley)

A representative from each of these institutions is now a member of the CUREE Board of directors. In addition, the Board has appointed two new Directors from the realm of professional practice, Dr. Gene Corley of the Construction Technology Laboratories, Skokie, Illinois (nominated by MAE) and Dr. Minhaj Kirmani of Weidlinger Associates, Cambridge, Massachusetts (nominated by MCEER).

Additional applications from other universities have been recently received and are pending review by the Board of Directors. The process of admitting universities with strong educational and research programs in the engineering aspects of earthquakes from around the country fulfills the strategic plan of the organization, as embodied in the revision of its Bylaws, that was put in place in 2000 and which culminated a process of developing into a national organization that began more than five years ago.
