We are thrilled to share with you the news that Ahmed Elbanna accepted an offer to join the faculty of the department of Earth Sciences at USC at the end of the summer and to become the next SCEC director in January 2026. This follows a broad search that was conducted last year by USC and the SCEC board of directors. Ahmed is a very broad and creative scientist with expertise* that cover both earthquake science and engineering, and strong interest in community building and education. These and other excellent skills make him highly qualified to lead SCEC into productive future directions. Please join us in welcoming enthusiastically Ahmed Elbanna to SCEC leadership.
