Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowship In Anticipating Earthquakes
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for the Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowship in the field of earthquake physics, fault structure and mechanics, and related fields. We are interested in candidates with expertise in observational and/or computational seismology, geodesy, and/or geology. Researchers that utilize AI/ML approaches are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to perform research broadly related to LDEO’s Anticipating Earthquakes Initiative (http://bit.ly/4lFmF1W) within the Seismology, Geology, and Tectonophysics Division (SGT). The initiative aims at improving our understanding of the relationship between active faults and the earthquakes they generate.
Candidates should have recently completed their Ph.D. or should expect to complete their degree requirements by December 2025. The principal selection criteria for Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellows are scientific excellence and a clearly expressed proposal to perform research under the mentorship of faculty within SGT (https://bit.ly/3TRHQ4S). Interested candidates are encourages to contact potential faculty members.
The position will be posted for at least 30 days after the ad appears. The deadline for applications for the Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowship is August 15, 2025.
The initial appointment will start on or about January 1, 2026, and will be for one year. Appointment will be renewable up to two years contingent upon performance and funding. Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowships are supported for 12 months, include a $7,500 research allowance, and carry an annual salary of $72,116.

Call for Abstracts – AGU 2025 Session NS011
We invite you to submit an abstract to AGU 2025 Session NS011, focused on cutting-edge developments in high-resolution imaging and time-lapse geophysical monitoring. This session will explore how seismic, electromagnetic, and remote sensing techniques are transforming our understanding of near-surface processes across environmental, urban, and energy systems.
We welcome contributions that:
- Utilize passive or active seismic and EM methods to image and monitor subsurface conditions.
- Integrate multi-modal datasets (e.g., DAS, GPR, InSAR, GPS, LiDAR, airborne EM, geochemistry).
- Apply novel instrumentation, machine learning, or computational techniques to large-scale, complex datasets.
- Demonstrate how cross-disciplinary approaches can enhance sustainability and resilience in natural and built environments.
Deadline: Wednesday, July 30, 2025
This session aims to highlight innovative and integrative approaches that provide actionable insights into subsurface and near-surface systems.
We look forward to your contributions!
