Dear SCEC Community, Disasters Expo USA, at the Los Angeles Convention Center September 5-6, 2024, is hosting a special Earthquake Country Alliance Symposium on Thursday, September 5, featuring several presenters from the SCEC Community! Those of you in SoCal are encouraged to attend this day of science, engineering, and safety – with stories of quake heroes and lessons for today, in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Northridge Earthquake. Plus you can explore more than 250 exhibitor booths each day of the Expo, all for free. ECA is hosting a large booth with partner organizations on both days with plenty of materials about earthquake safety, 3D-models of faults and buildings, and more. The Expo is open 10am – 4pm both days. The ECA Symposium is 11:00am – 3:45pm, on September 5 only. Learn about our presenters and their topics, and request FREE tickets to attend (normally $199!) We look forward to seeing you! Please share this announcement with colleagues, students, or others who may be interested in attending.

Each year, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) applies to FEMA for NEHRP state assistance, a portion of which is then subawarded to the Statewide California Earthquake Center (SCEC) to administer ECA’s earthquake education, outreach, and mitigation activities. Additional ECA activities are supported through SCEC’s funding from NSF and USGS, and at times other sponsors. To join ECA (free), complete our membership request form.
