Scientific Seminars by renowned international experts – INGV 25th Anniversary

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV),
Annals of Geophysics journal is pleased to invite you to a series of scientific seminars scheduled from October 2024 to May 2025. These seminars will take place at the INGV locations in Rome and Catania, with one session offered online via streaming.
The seminars will be led by internationally renowned experts (see list below) who have collaborated extensively with INGV over the years, contributing to advancements in various scientific fields and enhancing the Institute's prestige. While not exhaustive, the list of topics will provide an engaging overview of key areas in seismology, volcanology, and environmental sciences. The subjects presented during the seminars will be further developed and compiled into a special issue of the Annals of Geophysics, to be released next October.

We kindly ask you to complete the form at the following link:

Please note that in-person participation is limited by the capacity of the conference room. Completing the form will also ensure swift access to the Institute and facilitate the organization of coffee breaks!

SZNet Virtual Workshop | Subduction Zone Time Series Legacy Data

Registration is now open for the SZNet Virtual Workshop on subduction zone time series legacy data featuring discussions surrounding unarchived time series data that could benefit from public, open access and identify the common barriers to archiving.
This workshop will include:
  1. Keynote talks from representatives of archival organizations discussing existing archiving resources, archival guidelines, costs, barriers to archiving.
  2. Short talks from members of the international scientific community studying subduction zone geohazards discussing existing inaccessible time series datasets that would benefit from public, open access.
  3. Focused group discussions on topics of interest to the community. A list of discussion topics and a schedule will be published prior to the event.
To learn more about SZNet’s virtual workshops, please visit our website:
SZNet is the international component of SZ4D focusing on international collaboration and communication between active science networks studying subduction zone geohazards. For more information about SZNet, please visit our website.

Renew or Join SCEC as a Participating Institution by 22 October 2024

As a consequence of the transition to the new Statewide California Earthquake Center, ALL Participating Institutions must renew. Participating Institutions play a central role in the Center, helping to foster participation in our annual meetings, workshops, research program, education & outreach activities, and many other efforts.

Participating Institutions also have a direct role in SCEC leadership, including at-large representation on the Board of Directors, which helps define strategic priorities and supports the Center Directors in oversight of the Center. We are expanding to four at-large representatives, who are also eligible to serve as Board Officers, including Chair and vice-chair of the Board.

We encourage all existing Participating Institutions to renew. In addition, we invite new institutions to join the Center – so please spread the word if you know of organizations that might be interested. We have set up an online form to facilitate the process both for existing and new Participating Institutions:
https://forms.gle/sTyus1mo38w6Jvwz6

The form requests information about your institution, including a representative that will serve as a point of contact with SCEC. In addition, we are requesting a letter via the website from your Department Chair, Dean, or other unit director that confirms your interest in renewing or joining SCEC as a Participating Institution. Applications will be reviewed by the SCEC Board.

If you are interested in being considered as a potential At-large Board member, then please email Tim, Rachel and Camilla (currently serving as ad-interim Board Officer for Stakeholder Engagement) as soon as you have submitted your renewal.

Please contact us if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for your continued participation in SCEC!

Best regards,
Tim Dawson and Rachel Abercrombie
SCEC Board of Directors, Chair and Vice Chair

Camilla Cattania
Board Officer for Stakeholder Engagement

[SZ4D] Apply Now! 2025 Chile & US Exchange Program

The participant application form for the 2025 SZNet US & Chile Exchange Program is now open! Apply now for the opportunity to conduct a month-long independent research project at an institution of your choice in the US or Chile.
  • Apply Now!
  • Application Deadline: November 1, 2024
How to apply
Please apply using the participant application portal.
Applicants should reach out to the hosts that align with their research interests to define a project either by perusing our list of interested hosts or by contacting a researcher or institution in the partner country that applicants already have a relationship with. Applicants will need to submit both a short project description, and a letter of collaboration from their chosen host. Past experience shows that applicants who discuss projects with their host prior to completing the application fare better in the review process.

Please feel free to review the specific application requirements and questions here.

About the Program
The 2025 SZNet US & Chile Exchange Program aims to connect U.S. and Chilean-based students and early career scientists (within 3 years of receiving their last degree) with established scientists in the partner country who share similar research interests and goals. Through this program, SZNet supports students and early career scientists on a month-long visit to conduct an independent research project at the scientific institution of their choice. Learn more about the program below.
