REGISTER NOW—Quakeworx Kickoff: Advancing Earthquake Science and Cybertraining in Seismology (Jan 21-24, 2025)
The Statewide California Earthquake Center (SCEC), in collaboration with the University of California San Diego, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, San Diego Supercomputer Center, and other research institutions, invites you to participate in the “Quakeworx Kickoff: Advancing Earthquake Science and Cybertraining in Seismology” from January 21-24, 2025. This virtual workshop and training session will introduce key research computing practices and provide access to leading-edge seismological research applications. Workshop participants will use the NSF-supported Quakeworx science gateway to run applications for simulating wave propagation and dynamic ruptures, aftershock forecasting, and evaluating earthquake forecasts.
The workshop will be fully virtual from January 21-24, 2025, with daily sessions from 09:00-12:00 Pacific Time (UTC-8). The schedule includes four half-day sessions:
- Day 1 (Jan 21): Open Science and Research Computing for Seismology
- Day 2 (Jan 22): Introduction to Research Computing via the Quakeworx Science Gateway
- Day 3 (Jan 23): Earth Science Applications (Part 1) - SeisSol and Tandem
- Day 4 (Jan 24): Earth Science Applications (Part 2) - Moose-FARMS, UCERF3-ETAS, and pyCSEP
Audience: This workshop is designed for graduate students, postdocs, and researchers in seismology, geophysics, seismic hazard, and risk modeling who are interested in computational research.
Number of Participants: We have up to 50 spots available for the workshop. After reviewing the workshop applications, the committee will assign these spots.
Computing Requirements: A computer with a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari). Mobile devices are not sufficient for these sessions. An account on the Quakeworx science gateway will be created for participants.
