Apply-To-Sail Opportunity: PACSAFE 2025 Cruise for Ocean Bottom Seismometer Recovery and Deployment
We are excited to announce an Apply-To-Sail opportunity for early-career scientists and graduate students on the upcoming PACSAFE 2025 research cruise. This mission, scheduled for August 2025, will recover and deploy ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. The cruise offers a unique chance to engage with cutting-edge geophysical research and gain hands-on experience in marine seismology. Participants will assist with operations, learn about data acquisition, and work alongside an interdisciplinary team of researchers studying subduction zone processes and earthquake hazards. Travel expenses to and from the port of departure may be covered for selected applicants. Security clearance will be required for selected participants, so Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be prioritized.
We encourage applications from students, postdocs, and early-career scientists, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM fields. No prior seagoing experience is required, but enthusiasm for collaborative fieldwork is appreciated.
Please share this opportunity with colleagues and students who may be interested. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at tiegan.hobbs@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca.
