SEG workshop on Fiber Optics in the summer
We are pleased to invite you to submit abstracts(Deadline is March 6th) for the Role of Fiber in Geophysics: Now and Beyond Workshop organized by the SEG Research Committee. The Organizing Committee invites technical submissions for oral and poster presentations.
The goal of this workshop is to convene earth scientists and engineers to discuss existing challenges related to the use of fiber optic sensing, particularly Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), in geophysics. Historically, the majority of DAS utilization has been centered around VSP and completion monitoring; however, recent advances in photonics, processing, and deployment approaches have opened up new application domains. Likewise, simultaneous deployment of other fiber optic sensing modalities has transformed cables into multi-sensor platforms capable of measuring temperature, strain, pressure, seismic waveforms and even more unusual measurands with unparalleled spatial and temporal resolution.

CIG Speaker Series Nominations: deadline 21 March
We are pleased to announce that nominations for speakers for the 2025/2026 CIG Speakers Series are now open with deadline 21 March. A later solicitation with deadline May 31 will encourage CIG Speaker Series requests.
The CIG Speakers Series seeks to promote computational modeling in geodynamics and related Earth science disciplines. Speakers are drawn from a diverse pool of experts with exceptional capability to communicate the power of computation for understanding the dynamic forces that shape the surface and operate in the interior of our planet. Lectures are aimed at a broad scientific audience suitable for departmental or university colloquia series, and similar venues. https://geodynamics.org/outreach/speaker

Many thanks to our 2024/25 speakers Ching-Yao Lai, Stanford University and Brad Foley, Pennsylvania State University who invested time from busy schedules to share their expertise with diverse audiences and to talk with students in a classroom setting. These visits have been very well received by the host institutions. We look forward to continuing next year with another group of excellent CIG speakers!
