This presentation will describe a subset of CyberShake numerically simulated ground motions that were selected and vetted for use in engineering response history analyses. CyberShake is a Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) high-performance computing platform that simulates ground motion time series and conducts probabilistic seismic hazard analysis on a closely spaced grid in the southern California region. The massive amount of simulations can make it difficult for structural design engineers to locate appropriate time series for analysis. This project was motivated by the need to distill millions of simulated ground motions into a relatively small set that was vetted and accessible for engineering users. Selected ground motions have seismological properties (e.g., controlling magnitude and distance) and response spectra representative of local site conditions in the Los Angeles area, which were determined based on disaggregation of seismic hazard. Ground motions were selected from millions of available time series and were reviewed to confirm their suitability for response history analysis. We describe the time series selection process, the characteristics of the resulting data, and the provided documentation.
