GNS New Zealand Seismic Hazard Modeller

Job opportunity: Seismic Hazard Modeller

GNS in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, has a new position for a hazard modeller to conduct research in probabilistic analysis of seismic and other geological hazards, to undertake in-depth seismic hazard analysis projects for the growing range of national and international clients, and prepare associated consultancy reports.

To be successful you should have:
* Several years professional experience within a research, academic or consultancy environment
* A relevant MSc or PhD in geophysics, engineering, or hazard/risk assessment
* Strong report-writing skills
* An ability to develop and work within the tight time-frames often associated with commercial consultancy
* The vision to formulate and determination to follow through hazard related research programmes and new hazard products for end-users
* A willingness and ability to carry through and with time take on full responsibility for projects, for example, to carry through seismic hazard consultancy projects from first contact with a client to the completed consultancy report.

An ability to formulate recommendations of design motions from hazard results or to develop seismicity models from historical catalogues and active fault data would be an advantage.
