Summary of Job Duties:

Under direction from Principal Investigator:

Maintain computer, network, and data acquisition infrastructure for the NSF funded NEES@UCSB earthquake engineering research facility (http://nees.ucsb.edu). Configure and maintain OS/X, Linux, and Solaris computer systems for data acquisition, archival, and dissemination to the seismology and earthquake engineering community. With a good understanding of Perl, SQL, C, and regular expression languages, along with the Antelope commercial software package, configures automated processes to ensure quality control and completeness of continuous real-time seismological data. Occasional travel to seismic monitoring stations in southern California to troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade equipment. Installs and configures web server software. Designs, codes, deploys, and monitors web-based data presentation and dissemination software using XML, XSLT, XHTML, Java, and JavaScript. Write, document and maintain software in the Perl, PHP, Java, C, XML, XSLT, HTML and CSS languages. Assist with outreach demonstration activities. Provide general supervision to student assistants. Federal funded program expected to run through September 30, 2014, with possibility for continued funding beyond 2014.

Minimum Requirements:

At least three years experience as a programmer in Java, C, Perl, PHP, or other languages and/or three years experience as a Unix/Linux system administrator. Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well with others in a small team environment. Good technical writing skills and attention to detail in source code and process documentation. Knowledge of database design concepts and experience working with SQL and relational databases. Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

The ability to travel to earthquake monitoring field sites in Southern California to perform installation/maintenance of remote equipment.

Desirable Requirements:

4-year Degree in Computer Science or Earth Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Earth science, geophysics, and signal processing background.

Experience administering websites and web application programming.

Compensation:

UCSB CNT2 position: Hiring range: $45,012 - $63,084/yr.; Salary range: $45,012 - $81,144
