Postdoctoral research position in regional seismology (Project AQUAREL)

Date: 12/07/2012

Post-doc opportunity forwarded from Susana Custodio, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work on project AQUAREL aimed at building new tools for joint earthquake and Earth structure imaging at regional scales, with an application to Western Iberia. The post is funded by FCT (Portuguese ministry of science) for 27 months, and involves collaboration between IST (Portugal) and other European universities, notably the University of East Anglia (UK), University of Bristol (UK) and the University of Hamburg (Germany). The successful applicant will work with the project’s PI – Dr Ana Ferreira – and the AQUAREL team; he/she will be based primarily at IST, but will also visit partner universities for extended periods, notably the University of East Anglia (UEA).

We seek an ambitious and talented scientist with research experience in computational earthquake and/or Earth structure imaging. Candidates should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in quantitative seismology and be able to work both independently and as part of a group.

Applicants should send their CV (including the names and details of three referees) and a cover letter explaining their research interests and expertise, and how they fit into the broader goals of regional earthquake and Earth structure imaging.  The letter should also include possible start dates and any other relevant details.  The application materials should be sent to A.Ferreira@uea.ac.uk . The post is available immediately.
