Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

PostDocs and Grad Students- Announcing a Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute (PASI) on Earthquake Hazards, Dominican Republic, July 2013

Date: 03/21/2013

Workshop announcement forwarded from John Louie, UNR:

IRIS is now accepting applications to participate in “New Frontiers in Geophysical Research: Bringing New Tools and Techniques to Bear on Earthquake Hazard Analysis and Mitigation”. Complete information is available on the IRIS web site at http://www.iris.edu/hq/pasi_workshop. We are seeking PostDocs and Grad Students from the US as well as from Latin America.

This Advanced Studies Institute is designed to enable early career Earth scientists who already have mastered the fundamentals of seismology – including post-docs and graduate students – to begin collaborating in frontier seismological research. The Organizing Committee is comprised of internationally recognized seismologists from Central America, the Caribbean Sea Region, and the United States, and broad geographical participation is an important goal. The objectives are to:

• Develop understanding of the principles of earthquake hazard analysis, particularly site characterization techniques;

• Facilitate future research collaborations.

Individuals are encouraged to apply by March 31. Travel support will be available for selected participants. Women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. The Pan-American Advanced Studies Institutes (PASI) Program is a jointly supported initiative between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
