The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) invites applications for the position of Physical Scientist in the Western Region Earthquake Science Center located in Menlo Park, CA.  Center members conduct research in geology, geophysics, and seismology to assess seismic hazard on regional, national, and international scales.
 
The purpose of this position is to support implementation of software for  crustal deformation monitoring.
 
The successful applicant will be expected to:
 
1) Modify, debug, and maintain existing code to improve robustness and efficiency of real-time monitoring of GPS data streams.
 
2) Write software to implement newly-developed algorithms in support of earthquake early warning and rapid response.
 
3) Enhance existing code for web-based visualization that is used by both the public and the staff on the crustal deformation project.
 
4) Assist with field work with GPS surveys in the Western US.
 
 
This is a term full-time position and U. S. citizenship is required.
