Date: 11/05/2013

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Earth Surface Dynamics, Geomorphology and/or Landscape Evolution at the Assistant Professor level starting Fall 2014. A Ph.D. in Geosciences, physical geography or a related field is required at the time of appointment. In addition to teaching courses in her/his specialty, the successful candidate will offer an undergraduate course in Geomorphology and participate in the rotation of large-enrollment introductory geology and/or physical geography courses. Applicants should apply online at http://umass.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=42892 and submit a cover letter, CV, research statement, teaching statement, and contact information for three referees familiar with their research and teaching efforts.

All potential applicants should visit the Department of Geosciences website (www.geo.umass.edu) for further information about this position. Questions can be directed to the Search Committee Chair (search@geo.umass.edu).

Review of applicants will begin November 18, 2013 and continue until the ideal candidate is identified. The Department of Geosciences is committed to increasing the diversity of the faculty, student body, and curriculum. The University seeks to increase the diversity of its professoriate, workforce and undergraduate and graduate student populations because broad diversity is critical to achieving the University's mission of excellence in education, research, educational access and service in an increasingly diverse globalized society. Therefore, in holistically assessing many qualifications of each applicant of any race or gender we would factor favorably an individual’s record of conduct that includes students and colleagues with broadly diverse perspectives, experiences and backgrounds in educational, research or other work activities. Among other qualifications, we would also factor favorably experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to an academic career or degree.
