Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Dear SCEC Community,

Postdoctoral Research Opportunity in Induced Seismicity, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

The Atmospheric Earth and Energy Division in the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to perform research on induced seismicity related to subsurface injection.  Specific topics of interest include:  improved microseismic monitoring and analysis techniques, statistical methods for analyzing and interpreting microseismic data, probabilistic techniques for seismic risk assessment and uncertainty quantification, techniques for correlating observed seismicity with fluid injection rates and volumes, and approaches to improve detection of hazardous faults in the subsurface.  This is a joint posting between LLNL’s Seismology and Computational Geosciences Groups.  The successful candidate will be expected to apply their expertise to ongoing geothermal energy, geologic carbon storage, waste fluid disposal, or unconventional oil and gas projects. The position requires a background in seismology, a working knowledge of computer programming, and experience in geomechanics or reservoir engineering. The successful applicant may have access to LLNL's extensive computer facilities and field data. The successful applicant will interact with professional colleagues, mid-level management and sponsors across and outside of the Laboratory.  The position will report either to the Seismology or Computational Geosciences Group leader.
