I would like to bring to your attention the 7th PATA Days in Crestone, CO, 30 May-3 June 2016. 

The meeting is kindly organised by Jim McCalpin and not only includes scientific sessions on 
Paleoseismology, Active Tectonics, and Archaeoseismology, but also a student field training 
course and some fantastic excursions to the cradle of paleoseismology.

2. Nominations for SSA Awards

Hello,

Each year the Seismological Society of America bestows several awards on members of the earthquake science community:  

* The Harry Fielding Reid Medal recognizes outstanding contributions in seismology and earthquake engineering.

* The Charles F. Richter Early Career Award is given for outstanding contributions to the goals of the Society by a member early in her or his career.

* The Frank Press Public Service Award honors outstanding work that serves the profession of seismology or the advancement of public safety or public information relating to seismology; it may be given to any individual, combination of individuals, or organization.

* The Distinguished Service Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the work of the Society.

I encourage you to give some thought to colleagues who are deserving of one of these honors and submit nomination packages accordingly.  The deadline is February 15, 2016, and more details may be found here:http://www.seismosoc.org/awards/.

The advertisement for the TERM position as Geologist, GS-1350-09 will be posted on USAJOBS and will appear on Wednesday, February 10.  The advertisement is scheduled to close on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 or upon receipt of 50 applications; whichever occurs first.  This announcement is open to all U.S. Citizens under delegated examining.

The incumbent works with other geologists and geophysicists to collect, compile, interpret and present geological and geophysical data from a wide variety of projects, including paleoseismic trenching investigations, neotectonics and active fault slip rate investigations, lidar data acquisition, processing and analysis, as well as conducting cone penetrometer and near-surface seismic experiments and associated analyses.  

The resumes of those who apply MUST include detailed information for current and past positions: job title, name of company/agency, month/yr to month/yr, (e.g., March 2012 – June 2013), number of hours worked per week, salary, supervisor’s name and # (can include statement, “can call/do not call/contact me before calling,”) and narrative (not bullet list) of duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and abilities.  The resume should be at least two pages with half a page devoted to each position.  (There is a template at usajobs.gov to follow.)  Please follow instructions; transcripts are required (unofficial is fine).  SF-50s, PE License, etc., MUST be attached as required by the Vacancy Announcement.
