We have an open position for Seismologist at Karen Clark & Company (KCC). This is a full time position in Boston, MA. A brief description of our company and the position is provided below. For more information visit our website (http://www.karenclarkandco.com/).

We are the innovators in the catastrophe modeling space. KCC founders Karen Clark and Vivek Basrur created the first catastrophe models, the traditional modeling approach, and the foundation of software applications that have been used globally to estimate and manage catastrophe risk. KCC has now introduced new risk metrics and the first open catastrophe loss modeling platform—RiskInsight—an innovative technology that’s advancing the state–of–the–art and practice to a new level.

Position responsibilities:

· Search, find, collect, clean, and complete data related to regional historical seismicity
· Research regional tectonics and identify rupture mechanisms, fault structures, etc.
· Develop Magnitude-Frequency relationships for specific fault systems and/or regions
· Develop smooth and background seismicity models
· Model the fore- and after-shocks and reintroduce them into a historical catalog
· Inform clients on seismic source modeling and its impacts and assist them in developing earthquake models for different parts of the world
· Conduct post disaster field surveys after major events

Qualifications:

· PhD or higher in Seismology or Geophysics (this is not an Earthquake/Geotechnical Engineering position)
· At least five years of practical experience in seismic source modeling
· In-depth knowledge of, and skill in, probability and statistical methods
· Experience building catastrophe or other types of computer models
· Willingness to travel within and outside the US
· Excellent presentation and communication skills
