For many years the USGS has collaborated with USAID's Office

in response to earthquake and landslides abroad, to provide
training on earthquake and landslide topics in developing nations,
and to work with foreign counterparts on projects for
capacity-building and disaster risk reduction. We are seeking
applicants to a newly created position that will oversee refer this
line of work, which we refer to as an Earthquake Disaster Assistance
Team (EDAT).

We are seeking applicants with a background in areas such as
earthquake or landslide science, remote sensing, civil or
geotechnical engineering, and/or disaster risk reduction. Major
duties will include some or all of the following, depending on skills
and interests:
· Serving as USGS manager, coordinator, and spokesperson for
the EDAT, in coordination with USGS science centers and programs.
· Forging and maintaining collaborations among the USGS, OFDA,
and others, in order to conduct joint science and monitoring projects,
provide trainings, deliver science and information, and foster
productive relationships with scientific counterparts.
· Collaborating with OFDA’s Geoscience Advisor on selected
projects in support of OFDA’s mission.
· Analyzing USGS and partner agency datasets, products, and
capabilities, in order to assist, complement, and inform risk
reduction efforts.
· Participating in scientific and technical teams deploying in
response to natural hazard crises and events, or deploying to
conduct training or other capacity-building work.

The job is open to all US citizens at the GS-13 level (typically
meaning a graduate degree plus applicable work experience).
The full-time Term position will be renewable annually for up to four
years. Please note the closing date of April 2. Further details,
