Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

REMINDER: Final Opportunity to Submit Nominations for the Committee for SCEC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Date: 09/21/2022

Dear members of the SCEC community,

The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) is seeking  nominations (including self-nominations) for the Committee for SCEC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). The Committee is charged with assessing and recommending actions that support and broaden participation of underrepresented and underserved groups within the SCEC community and leadership positions, and firmly establish these goals as a value within the professional culture of SCEC.  This is a particularly exciting time for these efforts, as the SCEC leadership is exploring changes to the goals and management of the center, collaboration plan process, and annual meeting.  Members of this committee have the opportunity to guide and advise SCEC current and future EDI initiatives.

Committee members serve for a two year term. Duties include quarterly meetings and an additional 4-8 hours quarterly on follow-up tasks associated with the Committee priorities. The members commit to participating in the SCEC Annual Meeting to assess progress and provide recommendations on Center activities. The chair of the committee is responsible for writing a report to the board each year to offer recommendations and best practices, based on feedback from the committee as a whole.

All nominations must be submitted online via the EDI Committee member nomination form. The deadline for submitting nominations is September 23, 2022 at 5pm.

Any questions about the Committee member responsibilities or nomination process can be submitted to Rowena Lohman at rbl62@cornell.edu.

Warm Regards,
Rowena Lohman, Chair
Committee for SCEC Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
