Project Abstract
We will develop a method for predicting broadband ground motion. In doing so, we take into account that there are both modeling and parametric uncertainties. Th emethod we are proposing takes a unique approach as using probability distributions to define the kinematic parameters. Using these distributions we can compute a large number of scenarios that will allow us to examine the parametric uncertainty for different measures of ground motion, e.g., PGA, PGV, response spectral ordinates, CAV, etc. (Kramer, 1996). The Green’s functions are a combination of computational Green’s functions based on the Earth models as well as scattering functions derived from the data. We will validate our method by comparing the predictiosn with data and with other methods. These comparisons can help us to understand the range of ground motion that cna be predicted as well as the statistics of that range.
