Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

New observations of earthquakes and tremor dynamically triggered in Mexico

In this study, the results of an intense search for tremor and earthquakes triggered in Mexico by the seismic waves from distant earthquakes is presented. The search for triggered events focuses along the Middle American Trench, one of the most seismically active regions worldwide, where slow slip events and large magnitude earthquakes frequently occur. Additionally, observations of triggered earthquakes in Baja California are presented. Investigating dynamically triggered events can help us to gain a better understanding of the stress conditions of the places where these occur.
