Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Development of Geotechnical Data Base for Los Angeles and Its Potential for Seismic Microzonation

Published October 1995, SCEC Contribution #255

Past earthquakes have shown that damage patterns are often associated with local geologic and geotechnical conditions. The paper summarizes an ongoing project aimed at developing a 3-D database of geotechnical boring logs that will be integrated into a GIS for the estimation and forecasting of earthquake damages in the Los Angeles area.
