Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

About Me Publications
Ruth Prado is a sophomore at Glendale Community College. She is pursuing an AS in Earth Science and a BS in Environmental Science with a focus on management. After attaining her Bachelor's Degree in 2023, Ruth plans to work on studying the disproportionate effect global warming has on marginalized communities.

Ruth Prado is a 2021 SOURCES intern and is working on the Near-field kinematics of the 2019 Ridgecrest surface rupture with research mentors Alba Rodriguez Padilla and Mike Oskin. This project is focusing on mapping the fractures caused by the 6.4 and 7.1 earthquakes by using high-resolution drone imagery. The mapping of the surface ruptures provides data on the various forms of fracturing happening throughout the area in varying mediums and more detailed methods of analyzing the patterns made by these fractures.

In addition to these interests, Ruth loves to watch films, bike with her friends, hike on trails nearby her house, and spend time with her family.
