Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

2003 Annual Meeting Field Trip

2003 Southern California Earthquake Center Annual Meeting Field Trip Description
Date: September 7, 2003
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Organizers: L.D. Gurrola and E.A. Keller

We will visit several spectacular geomorphic anticlinal landforms formed as the result of blind reverse faulting on the picturesque Santa Barbara coastal plain. Discussion of Quaternary uplift rates and active folding of the Mission Ridge fault system will be the focus of the field trip and be presented overlooking the beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor. Plan to enjoy short beach hikes at the Santa Barbara cemetery and Loon Point anticlines where you can observe fault-propagation folding of the deformed oxygen isotope stage 5 terraces.
