FEMA has released a much-improved "Maintenance Release 1 (MR1)" version of the HAZUS-MH GIS software used to estimate losses due to earthquakes, floods, and wind.

On June 27, 1-4pm, the Southern California HAZUS Users Group (SocalHUG) will meet to learn about the new features and capabilities of HAZUS-MH, which includes new loss estimation models for flood and wind hazards, in addition to an improved earthquake model. HAZUS-MH software developers from across the country will be present to describe the new features and models, and answer your questions. Also, a recent SCEC/USGS study will be presented which used HAZUS-MH for estimating losses resulting from earthquakes on the Puente Hills fault. The presentation will include a brief overview of how to create your own earthquake shake maps (with the SCEC/USGS "OpenSHA" software) and import these into HAZUS-MH. We will conclude with a general discussion of how to function as a HAZUS User Group, how we can share data and other resources, and how we can bring HAZUS user training to southern California.

1. From the Harbor Freeway (110) South or North, exit at Exposition Blvd.
2. Go WEST on Exposition.
3. Turn RIGHT at Vermont Ave.
4. Next turn RIGHT at Jefferson Blvd.
5. Go about 80 feet and turn RIGHT into USC Gate 8.
6. Tell the attendant that you are attending a HAZUS meeting with the Southern California Earthquake Center in the SGM Building and you will be given a parking pass.
7. After parking, exit on the opposite side of the building from which you entered, walk past the USC Lyons Center (gym) and turn RIGHT onto McClintock Ave.
8. Walk SOUTH on McClintock to Downey Way and turn LEFT.
9. The Seeley G. Mudd building is the tall building at the corner of McClintock Ave. and Downey Way. Enter from Downey Way.
10. The meeting will be held in the Seeley G. Mudd Building, room 124.
