Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

SCEC Community Workshop: Community Stress Model

Conveners: Jeanne Hardebeck, Brad Aagaard, Thorsten Becker, Bruce Shaw, and John Shaw
Dates: May 29-30, 2013
Location: Vallombrosa Center, Menlo Park, CA (Serra Room)
SCEC Award: 13002

OVERVIEW: The third annual workshop of the SCEC Community Stress Model (CSM) project will focus on (1) understanding and attempting to reconcile differences in stressing rate models, and (2) developing and applying metrics to validate stress and stressing rate models against a variety of data. We plan to follow the format of the successful 2012 CSM Workshop: a small 1.5-day workshop primarily attended by model and data contributors and key representatives of user communities. The workshop format will include some formal presentations of data compilations, models, and model comparisons, but the majority of time will be scheduled for focused discussion of important issues. Because the focus on reconciling stressing rate models, which are primarily based on geodetic data, we will hold this workshop in conjunction with the 2013 SCEC Community Geodetic Model (CGM) Workshop.

PARTICIPANTS (26 total, 1 remote): Brad Aagaard (USGS), Thorsten Becker (USC), Greg Beroza (Stanford), Yuri Fialko (UCSD), Mike Floyd (MIT), Lucy Flesch (Purdue), Attreyee Ghosh (Bangalore Ins Tech), Tom Hanks (USGS), Jeanne Hardebeck (USGS), Egill Hauksson (Caltech), Liz Hearn (USGS contractor), Bill Holt (SUNY at Stony Brook), Tran Huynh (USC), Kaj Johnson (Indiana), Eric Lindsey (UCSD), Mian Liu (Missouri), Karen Luttrell (USGS), Betsy Madden (UMass), Jessica Murray (USGS), Tom Parsons (USGS), Fred Pollitz (USGS), David Sandwell (UCSD/SIO), Wayne Thatcher (USGS), Xiaopeng Tong (UCSD), Wenzheng Yang (AIR Worldwide, Boston), and Jiyang Ye (Missouri)
