USGS field assistant job posting
|
USGS is hiring two field assistants to help with earthquake geology research. One position is in Seattle with Steve Angster, one position is in Moffett Field with my group. The positions are half time, this can be six months full time, or be distributed in other ways. These research groups perform research on active faults of the greater San Andreas and Cascadia regions. Field assistants may participate in research involving trenching, tectonic geomorphology, GIS, fault mapping, cosmogenic and other geochronologic sampling, sediment coring, lidar, gnss, uas, and other survey data collection and be a part of a the USGS Earthquake Science Center, providing exposure to a wide range of geological and geophysical research, as well as earthquake monitoring and scientific response to natural hazards events.

Application open for CRESCENT P&A Work

The application is now open for the Cascadia Region Earthquake Science Center (CRESCENT) Partnerships & Applications Workshop in Portland, OR, June 25-26, 2026. A description of the workshop is provided below and on our event page.
|
CRESCENT's 3rd annual Partnerships & Applications Workshop is designed to explore the challenges and needs of the multi-disciplinary community involved in earthquake hazard study and mitigation in the Pacific Northwest. Workshop discussions in 2024 and 2025 highlighted universal interest in developing scenarios and inter-organizational exercises for preparedness and response as a priority next step.

Consequently, a deeper consideration of scenarios has been selected as the central theme for the 2026 P&A workshop with specific goals to:
|
- Facilitate community interaction to understand scenario uses and needs
- Determine how science can support use cases and needs with existing or future research/scenario development
- Plan and design specific outputs to:
- Support response and interagency clearinghouses
- Develop strategic partnerships for future coordination and/or scientific research towards resilience
We welcome applications from anyone interested in Cascadia earthquake resilience, including researchers, practitioners, educators, policymakers, and representatives of community organizations.
