AGU Workshop on Using FEM in Geophysics
|
If you are interested in learning more about using the finite element method (FEM) to simulate geophysical processes or want to meet and discuss methodologies with other FEM users, please consider attending our AGU workshop: “Finite Element Method Modeling of Geophysical Processes for Earth and Planetary Science.” This workshop will be held on Sunday, 6 December likely in the afternoon at the AGU conference center.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a broad overview of FEM softwares, extensions, and techniques. We will showcase the breadth of geophysical processes that can be modeled using modern FEM tools on Earth and other planetary bodies. This workshop is geared towards researchers who are familiar with geophysical processes and numerical models, from graduate students to career scientists. Our workshop will provide networking opportunities and aims to result in a public repository of basic codes for various FEM softwares and processes.

If you are interested in presenting at this workshop, please fill out this form (or link below) or email ianfpamerleau@cornell.edu. Presentations will likely be 15–20 minutes in length and should be in the style of a demo that showcases the specific software or extension you use to construct your simulations. Your demo should focus on how to create a geophysical model and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the software/extension. We are still in the early planning stages for this workshop, so if you have ideas of what you would like to see out of this workshop, please let us know in the above form.
