Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

SCEC2023 Fee Assistance & Poster Lightning Talks

Date: 08/08/2023

Dear SCEC Community,

Early career researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate interns typically make up more than 40% of participants at SCEC's annual meetings. Their work is featured in the meeting program in Lightning Talks during the plenary sessions and the Poster Sessions each day. Through the Fee Assistance program and Poster Lightning talks, SCEC encourages students and postdocs to attend and showcase their work at the 2023 SCEC Annual Meeting

SCEC2023 Fee Assistance. Students and Early Career Researchers are advised to consult with their supervisor and department before making any out-of-pocket payments for meeting registration. If your institution’s resources are exhausted, you may apply for conference fee assistance through SCEC to pay for the $325 registration fee. Assistance is subject to fund availability. Please note that registration for the annual meeting is considered complete only after the registration payment has been processed.

Poster Lightning Talks. We have dedicated time in the SCEC2023 plenary session program for anyone interested in presenting a poster lightning talk. One person from each poster team will concisely summarize and promote the research presented in their poster … in under 60 seconds. See the SCEC2023 Poster Session Guide for detailed information on how to submit a poster lightning talk for consideration. Students and early career participants will be given priority. You must submit your poster abstract before August 15th to be included in the SCEC2023 program.

And don’t forget to register for SCEC2023 by August 15th to lock in the lower registration fee. See you in Palm Springs!

Sincerely,
SCEC Meetings Team
