SCEC is preparing to launch its first cohort of Technical Activity Groups (TAGs) in 2026, a new Team Science framework designed to organize interdisciplinary research around high‑priority earthquake science challenges with relevance to seismic hazard and preparedness in California. An early response from the community—nineteen letters of intent involving roughly 180 researchers—highlights both the breadth of scientific opportunities and the need for integration across proposed efforts, given finite program resources. A new article outlines emerging TAG concepts by the community, the priorities that will guide selection of the first TAGs, and how SCEC and its committees are working to encourage collaboration and maximize impact. It also describes next steps toward the upcoming TAG RFP, including review expectations and timelines for full proposals.
