Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

2006 SCEC Annual Meeting

Date: 06/28/2006

To SCEC Community,

First Announcement of SCEC Annual Meeting

The 2006 SCEC Annual Meeting will be held September 10-13 at the Palm
Springs Hilton Hotel in Palm Springs, California. Note: The meeting was
recently moved to this venue from our usual meeting hotel, the Riviera
Resort and Racquet Club. The Riviera was sold in March and closed on
May 29 for a $300M renovation.

The Hilton is about 3 km from the Riviera, in downtown Palm Springs. Due
to this recent venue change, the meeting facilities will not be as
spacious as the Riviera, but the hotel should be adequate for our needs.
The hotel web site is http://www.palmsprings.com/hilton/index.html

The meeting is being organized by the SCEC Planning Committee, chaired by
Ralph Archuleta. A draft agenda should be available in July. There will
be poster presentations with abstracts due no later than August 24.
Abstracts will be submitted on line. In addition to the normal work of
planning future activities, we will again have several science talks
during the meeting, with evenings set aside for poster sessions/viewing.

Posters should be put up on Sunday night; the display panels for posters
are 120 cm high by 240 cm wide.

The annual meeting will formally start on Monday morning and conclude
late Wednesday morning.
Rooms at the Palm Springs Hilton will be $91/night plus tax, single or
double occupancy. You must register through the SCEC web site to get the
meeting rate. Meals will be served buffet style as has become the
tradition at SCEC meetings.

Instructions for abstract submission and registration will be at
http://www.scec.org/meetings/2006am/. The site will be available in
July.

SCEC scientists are strongly encouraged to bring their students to Palm
Springs.

Hope you are having a wonderful summer.

Cheers, John
