Faculty Position in Geophysics at UC Riverside

The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of California, Riverside is seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in geophysics. We seek a candidate who investigates fundamental processes operating during the earthquake cycle. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program that contributes to our growing research focus in earthquake physics. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research is complementary to our existing strengths in theoretical/numerical modeling of earthquakes and earthquake processes, observational seismology, and experimental and theoretical investigations of rheological properties as they pertain to shallow and deep earthquakes. Our current faculty in these areas consists of Elizabeth Cochran, James Dieterich, Harry Green, David Oglesby, and Guanshui Xu. We are a core member of the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) and the national Consortium for Materials Property Research in Earth Sciences (COMPRES), and we are active in the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP). Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. and have a strong commitment to excellence in both research and teaching.
