Faculty Position in Seismology, Geology and Geophysics Department, University of Utah

Assistant / Associate Professor of Seismology

The Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah seeks applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels in seismology. Priority will be given to candidates whose research has a focus on topics such as earthquake seismology, lithospheric properties and processes, volcano-tectonic seismic systems, and the dynamics of plate deformation. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree and must possess a rigorous background in seismology. Development of a strong research program is expected with components of observational seismology in her/his area of interest. We seek applicants who will develop an internationally recognized research program while also maintaining high teaching standards at the undergraduate and graduate levels. There are opportunities for collaboration with faculty members working in reflection seismology, lithospheric dynamics, active tectonics, and volcanic systems, as well as with researchers at the University of Utah Seismograph Stations and Yellowstone Volcano Observatory. Resources available for faculty research include extensive data from the Utah and Yellowstone seismic and GPS networks. The Utah Tomography Modeling/Migration Consortium and the Center for Electromagnetic Imaging provide additional resources in geophysics and high-level computational methods.
