Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Register Now for the SoSAFE Workshop, January 8-9, 2007

Date: 11/22/2006

As announced at the 2006 SCEC Annual Meeting, SCEC has a new Special Project called the Southern San Andreas Fault Evaluation (SoSAFE, which is pronounced as it is spelled, 'so safe') Project. The initial kick-off meeting was held on Sept. 10, 2006 at which time a date was set for the first SoSAFE workshop, which will be on January 8-9, 2007 at the SCEC offices (on Jan. 8) and also at the USC Davidson Conference Center (on Jan. 9).

As SoSAFE will focus on the southern San Andreas fault, it is appropriate to hold the first workshop as a scientific commemoration of the great 1857 Fort Tejon earthquake, so on January 9th at 8:24 a.m. (PST) we will mark its sesquicentennial.

We ask that everyone who would like to participate in the workshop register on the SCEC web page listed below.

The registration deadline is December 11, 2006, but don't wait to sign up, because space is limited.

The detailed meeting agenda will be developed and distributed to meeting participants later, but for now please read the following carefully before completing the registration form:

All registrants should state clearly their reasons for attendance (in case we are oversubscribed). The meeting room on Jan. 8 will be able to hold about 40 people, and this will be a working meeting for those who have proposed to receive SoSAFE funding from SCEC and also those who intend to collaborate with and contribute to the SoSAFE Project using other sources of support. The room at Davidson on Jan. 9 will accommodate about 100 people and the agenda will include keynote presentations on topics of interest to a wider audience. Depending on registration numbers we may need to limit participants based on what is written on the web form r.e. reason for attending.
