Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Forwarded faculty position announcement from Steven Day, SDSU:

The Department of Geological Sciences at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Applied Geophysics, to begin in Fall 2008. We anticipate an appointment at the Assistant Professor level, although a more senior appointment may be considered in exceptional circumstances. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in research, with the capability to establish a strong, externally funded research program involving students at all levels, including PhD students through the University's program in Computational Sciences and prospective joint doctoral program in Earthquake Science and Applied Geophysics with the University of California, San Diego. Research areas of interest to the Department include (but are not limited to) energy and minerals exploration/production; engineering, environmental or hydrological applications of geophysical methods; and subsurface imaging, at any scale, directed toward the understanding, assessment, and/or mitigation of geologic hazards. Applicants whose research interests complement the Department's existing strengths are especially encouraged (you may visit the Department at http://www.geology.sdsu.edu.). The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in support of the Geological Sciences curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.

Extensive local computing facilities are available, with further computational support available through the nearby San Diego Supercomputer Center. San Diego State University is a partner in the National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure and the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology. It is a Core Institution of the Southern California Earthquake Center and co-founding institution for the award-winning SAGE (Summer of Applied Geophysical Experience) program.

Applicants should send (by mail or email) a letter of application describing teaching and research interests, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information (including phone numbers and email addresses) of three references, to Applied Geophysics Search Committee Chair, Department of Geological Sciences, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA 92182-1020, Email: pparrish@sciences.sdsu.edu.
