Job Opening at USGS Pasadena Office

A job opening for a geologist or geophysicist at the Pasadena, CA Office of the USGS is posted at the USGS "OARS" job site. The position is for a staff scientist to the Chief Scientist for the Inter-disciplinary Multi Hazards Demonstration Project in Southern California. It is not a research position. Duties include assisting the Chief Scientist in the management and coordination of the project, tracking the project finances, supervising students and support staff, development and support of technology transfer and communication to the southern California community. Writing of reports, fact sheets, proposals and other scientific documents will be a major part of the job. The applicant must be a geologist or geophysicist with a degree and experience in a natural hazard science. Knowledge and skills required by position include professional knowledge of principles and concepts of the range of hazards science, including geology, hydrology, geophysics and engineering, skill in scientific writing, and the ability to independently plan, organize, set priorities and coordinate work. In addition, skill in computer applications in risk management (such as HazusMH or OpenSHA) and the ability to speak Spanish would be desirable.
