Physical Scientist position available, USGS Earthquake Hazards Team

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) invites applications for the position of Physical Scientist in the Western Region's Earthquake Hazards Team located in Menlo Park, CA. Team members conduct research in geology, geophysics, and seismology to assess seismic hazards and risk on regional, national, and international scales.

The purpose of this position is to perform tasks related to the collection and analysis of geodetic data used for measuring crustal deformation and for earthquake response.

The successful applicant will be expected to

1) develop and implement software tools in support of crustal deformation research and earthquake response activities,
2) implement and troubleshoot telemetry data paths for real-time transmittal of high-rate Global Positioning System (GPS) data,
3) apply specialized software to clean strainmeter data and perform preliminary data analysis for crustal deformation monitoring, and
4) plan and carry out GPS data collection throughout the western United States.

This is a permanent full-time position with an annual salary of $52,740 - $68,568 depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. U.S. citizenship is required.
