Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Gordon Research Conference on ROCK DEFORMATION

Date: 07/07/2008

FINAL REMINDER

We still have slots available for the Gordon Research Conference on Rock Deformation to be held Aug. 3-Aug. 8 at the Tilton School in New Hampshire. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Real Time Rheology”; we have lined up an excellent list of speakers on a wide range of topics, including: Geodetic and seismological constraints on lithosphere rheology, mechanical properties of faults during earthquakes, dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets, viscosity of the lower crust, links between seismic attenuation, seismic anisotropy and the rheology of the upper mantle, and future directions in applied research linking rheology and reactive porous flow.

The full agenda, as well as details on how to register are available at:

http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2008&program=rockdef

GOOD NEWS: We have received positive word from both NSF and DOE that they will help us support the costs of graduate student and post-docs registration and travel – so please encourage your students and post-docs to apply!

Applications are due by July 13 and registration is due by July 20!!

NOTE: For those not familiar with the GRC, we emphasize that the application process is a formality primarily required for meetings with much larger attendance.

We’re looking forward to a great meeting.

Cheers,

Greg Hirth, Chair (E-mail: Greg_Hirth@Brown.Edu)
and David J. Prior, Vice Chair (E-mail: DAVEP@LIV.AC.UK)
