Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

CIG virtual workshop: Crustal Deformation Modeling Tutorial, June 24-28, 2013

Date: 03/21/2013

Forwarded workshop announcement from Brad Aagaard, USGS:

1st Announcement for the 2013 Crustal Deformation Modeling Tutorial

Online virtual workshop to be held June 24-28, 2013

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

Workshop web page:

This virtual workshop will focus on providing training in the use of the CIG PyLith software for modeling crustal deformation, particularly interseismic, coseismic, and postseismic deformation. The training will also include instruction in CUBIT for creating finite-element meshes as input for PyLith and visualizing PyLith output using Paraview.

The workshop will be held Monday June 24, Wednesday June 26, and Friday June 28, 2013, using AdobeConnect web-based tools. Monday will be dedicated to intermediate tutorials with the content progressing to advanced level topics on Wednesday and Friday. Each of the three days will be divided into 2 hour sessions with morning (Pacific Time) and afternoon (Pacific Time) sessions. An alternative schedule (Schedule B) will have the same sessions at a time more convenient for participants in eastern Asia, New Zealand, and Australia (see the Agenda for details). There are no registration fees.

Training for beginning users is available via the extensive PyLith documentation (http://www.geodynamics.org/cig/software/pylith/user_resources), which includes archived material from the 2011 virtual workshop.

We plan to continue holding in-person crustal deformation modeling workshop on a biannual basis (even years) with the next workshop tentatively scheduled for June 2014, at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO.
