We are currently looking for post-doctoral researcher(s) to contribute to the EPSRC-funded project ‘Seismic Safety and Resilience of Schools in Nepal’ (SAFER). The goal of this international project is to address development challenges in Nepal through engineering research in the fields of sustainable infrastructure and disaster resilience. The candidate will work within the Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering (EGE) Research Group at the University of Bristol.

Successful candidates will be adding research capabilities in the areas of engineering seismology and earthquake geo-structural engineering relevant to school construction in Nepal, including –but not limited to- advanced numerical modeling of earthquake sources and regional wave propagation, site response, or probabilistic structural performance problems. The post-holder will be joining a strong research team at the University of Bristol, and an international consortium of Universities, local agencies and NGO’s seeking to develop solutions that will improve the seismic resistance of schools’ infrastructure in Nepal.

The appointee will have at least a first degree or equivalent in civil engineering, geophysics or another quantitative subject, and a PhD (or one that is close to completion) in Civil Engineering, Geophysics, Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering Reliability and Risk or Physical Sciences (or closely related disciplines) Professional accreditation e.g. Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Geologist (CGeol) or Chartered Scientist (CSci) status (or international equivalent) would be an advantage.

The post(s) are offered on full time, open-ended contract with funding for up to 2 years.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.
