11NCEE Registration Grants Available for Graduate Students, Early Career Academics, and Early Career Professionals

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Pankow Foundation, and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) have made funds available to award registration grants to graduate students, and early career academics and professionals to defray costs for attending the 11th U.S. National Conference on Earthquake Engineering (11NCEE).

Awards are limited to graduate students, early academics and early professionals who reside in the U.S., attend a U.S. university, or teach at a U.S. university as of January 31, 2018. These grants are being coordinated by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI).

Applications must be received by Wednesday, January 31, 2018 for consideration.

EERI will notify award recipients by Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

All recipients are expected to contribute four (4) hours of voluntary service during the conference. We anticipate providing funding for approximately 40 participants. The award selection criteria, application procedure, and deadlines are described below.

Award Selection Criteria

The awards are intended for university graduate students, early career academics, and early career professionals. Graduate students are defined as individuals who are enrolled full-time in a college or university in a graduate program at the time of the registration grant award application submittal deadline (January 31, 2018). Early career academics are defined as assistant (tenure-track) professors, regardless of age. Early career professionals are defined as individuals who graduated after January 31, 2013. The selection committee will judge applicants based on the following criteria:

1. Active participation in the 11NCEE (e.g., invited speaker or moderator, papers and/or posters accepted for the conference, conference committee volunteer work, etc.)
2. EERI membership, active participation with national EERI or a local EERI Student or Regional Chapter (if a local chapter exists).
