Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Date: 01/28/2022

From:
Gabriela Noriega

SCEC's Office of Experiential Learning and Career Advancement is seeking applicants for the 2022 SOURCES Internship Program.

SCEC SOURCES is a fully-paid, remotely-mentored internship that offers the opportunity for students to gain research experience and professional development, regardless of geographic location or availability of local researchers.

SOURCES undergraduate interns benefit from:

  • A remotely-mentored research experience that contributes to advancing earthquake science
  • Weekly meetings with their SCEC mentor to make progress on the research project
  • Professional development webinars coordinated by SCEC
  • An opportunity for students to present their research at a professional conference
  • A visit to the mentor’s institution (when possible)
  • A weekly student stipend of $600 per week, for 6 to 12 weeks (duration to be determined based on project needs)

Undergraduate students in all grade levels interested in applying their STEM background in earthquake science research are encouraged to apply to SOURCES here. Applications received by February 25, will be considered in the first round of internship offers. Applications received after February 25 will be reviewed as needed.

Calling all SCEC researchers!

Do you have pre-collected seismic or geodetic data that requires help to analyze, existing software code to be optimized or other research projects that can be completed remotely? Consider becoming a SOURCES research mentor for one or more students this summer. Please also encourage other researchers to be mentors. You can even mentor a student - or a team of students- together!

Researchers interested in mentoring a SCEC intern should complete the Research Mentor Survey. We will help match you with a student intern to support your research. Note that completing the survey does not obligate participation in SOURCES.
